Male Pattern Hair Loss (also known as Androgenetic Alopecia) is one of the most common forms of the condition and usually requires the uses of a Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant. This method entails the removal of individual follicles from ‘donor sites’ and relocating them to balding areas or the ‘recipient site’ (such as the temples or front hairline).

Donor Dominance Principle

robotic FUE hair transplant

While follicles in areas such as the front hairline and temples are often susceptible to balding, most individuals will have genetically resistant hair that is usually located on the back or sides of the head. This principle is known as “Donor Dominance” and refers to the hairs on a balding man’s that are not vulnerable to the common causes of hair loss. Using precise yet non-invasive ARTAS machinery, we identify and extract these follicles, transplant them to balding areas and let them continue to grow as if they have never been moved.

Why choose FUE?

No other treatment has ever been proven to effectively treat hair loss around the temples and front hairline. However, transplants can still be highly effective for other areas as well, such as the crown, when other methods have failed to yield results. An added benefit of this method is that it has no scarring and minimal recovery time when compared with the outdated strip method.

In the end, achieving your goal of a thick head of hair is the best part of the process. The results are genuinely thick and natural in appearance and there will be no evidence of any treatment having taken place. Combining scientific knowledge with hairline design, our doctors can give you the hair you deserve for a younger and happier you.

How does the ARTAS robotic hair transplant system work?

Below is an image of what some may look like prior to treatment; almost always, balding occurs at the front and top of the head, while a ring of hair remains around the back and sides. The reason for this is because the follicles growing in these areas have two distinct features:

(1) They are resilient to the miniaturisation effect of the follicles which is caused by DHT, an active form of testosterone. When these hairs are relocated to vulnerable areas, they continue to grow in the same way and resist any future balding.

(2) These DHT-resistant hairs commonly grow together in batches of two, three and even four strands.

Since many of the hairs on the sides and back of the head possess these features, they act as the perfect donor site for the ARTAS procedure. In addition, rejection is highly unlikely as the follicles are from your own body and usually not treated as foreign or harmful. After the necessary donor hairs have been extracted, separated and transplanted into the bald areas of the scalp, you can leave after a single day surgery with a new head full of thick, natural and permanent hair that will continue to resist the continuing effects of DHT.

What is the process of the day surgery?

To begin, we inject a local anaesthetic into the chosen ‘donor area’ prior to removing selected DHT-resistant follicles. We use a specialised FUE machine for gentle extraction and incubate removed hairs in a stem cell solution while we plan a natural design for your new hairline. Once the hairline is confirmed with your approval, our doctors will complete the procedure by implanting the follicles into tiny impressions until all strands are in place
